This sport features dogs working or dogs “dancing” or dogs “performing” to music with their handlers in what could easily be described as musical freestyle.
This sport has been covered now at Crufts, Discover Dogs and although the majority of working dogs, Border Collies.... sheepdogs, Beardies... are from the dog shows and the dog obedience sector, at ticket shows competitors can be seen warming up their ticket dogs with a variety of moves which can increase their motivation. Linda Topliss is one of the first exponents of the new sport of Canine Freestyle, sometimes known as Heelwork To Music. The sport is also being actively pursued by those competing at fly ball, or agility or sheep trialing and working trials.
Dog competitions or dog tournaments are being arranged more and more - spreading news of these dog activities to the view of the General Public giving them a chance to see performing dogs in action with their handlers.
Training your dog is fun, using touch stick with clicker training begins to mould the dog behavior into moves which can be put into freestyle musicals.
