Two Days of
Canine Freestyle

DESCRIPTION OF THIS EVENT
To provide audience appeal through the partnership of dog and handler interpreting the music by their combined movements
To provide a forum for the dogs and handlers to demonstrate their initiative in putting together moves in a novel manner
To encourage handlers to widen the range of skills in which they and their dogs are competent, enabling both the dog and handler to grow in confidence and ability within the parameters of the particular breed
Musical Heelwork The routine should include at least 70% `close work' ie. The dog positioned in any direction relative to the handler and within the dog's body length of the handler. During the other 30% of the routine the dog can be at any distance from the handler. No jumps allowed. The routine should flow to interpret the music.
Canine Freestyle. The routine should include varied moves, not injurious to the dog or handler, which should flow to interpret the music. No more than 30% heelwork is allowed in this division
Scoring - for this event
SECTION 1  Content  - 10 marks
Routines should flow and be balanced as a whole to demonstrate content with accuracy while interpreting the music. Full use should be made of the ring.  Handlers should construct a programme that has a varied content with spectator appeal
SECTION 2 Movement Accuracy and Execution - 10 Marks
The judges will be looking for the accuracy of execution of all movements. They will take into account the bearing and deportment of each handler & the style of the dog's work.
SECTION 3 Musical Interpretation - 10 Marks
A fundamental requirement for this section is good musical timing & interpretation. The dog and handler should present as a team. The routine should have spectator appeal and appropriate costuming as this section will include a mark for dress.
RULES
Dogs entered must be kept under control and not be within three rows of the ring
The Canine Freestyle GB Organisers reserve the right to refuse entries.
The non-refundable entry fees are as stated on the Entry Form Non-Members may use the reverse of the entry form to apply for membership, thereby the reduced fees would apply.
No bitch in season will be allowed to enter.
Cheques should be made payable to Canine Freestyle GB.
If the event is oversubscribed, entries may be limited by the CFGB Organisers
Harsh or punitive handling will not be tolerated.
Should a judge be unable to fulfil the appointment, the Canine Freestyle GB Organisers reserve the right to appoint another judge.
No handler shall impugn the decision of the judges.
It is the handler's responsibility to be available when required to work and for the prize presentation.
Should unforeseen circumstances so dictate, in consultation with the judges, the Canine Freestyle GB Organisers may alter arrangements as necessary.
All dogs and handlers will be entered at this event at their own risk and while every care will be taken, the CFGB Organisers will not accept responsibility for loss, damage or injury however caused to dogs, person or property while at the event.

Should circumstances make it necessary to cancel this event, The Club reserves unto itself the right to defray expenses from the entry fees received.
Only dogs over 6 months of age are eligible to enter.
It is the handler's responsibility to provide music that is of good quality and clear, a back up tape of either CD or tape should be provided.
All handlers will be responsible for cleaning up after their dogs.
For safety reasons, the Canine Freestyle GB Organisers reserve the right to refuse admission to any person/dog as necessary.

PERFORMANCE RULES
On entering the ring, handlers should proceed, with their dogs under control, to the centre. Having acknowledged the judges, they will then proceed to their starting point, where they will indicate their readiness for the music to start.
At the end of the routine, both handler and dog should come to a definite stop and remain in this position for several seconds. On completion of the routine the handler/s should try and acknowledge the judges and the audience.
Both dog and handler shall remain in the ring at all times during the routine.
Routines should be choreographed in order to ensure that at least 75% of the ring area is used.
A prop may be used as an integral part of the routine and if used it must not obstruct the judges' view. A prop should be inanimate, inedible and not injurious to the dog or handler.
In Classes 1 and 2, a dog may be on the lead - but the use of the lead will be penalised.
Dogs must wear a collar with identification - and may wear a neck decoration which does not impede it's movement or vision. The dog may also wear ankle bands. There should be no further costuming of the dog.
Handlers should be dressed appropriately and complementary to the presentation, without detracting from it.
The handler may use voice and body language and may handle the dog, however, excessive  handling will be penalised in Section 2.
If a dog's barking detracts from the routine - points may be deducted from Section 2
Food must not be taken into the ring at any time - this includes before or during the  routine or whilst practising between classes.
Toys must not be taken into the ring during a judged routine.
A running order will be made for all classes.
Handler's entering more than one class must use different music and routines.

RULES FOR “ANYTHING GOES”  (The Class For The Disabled)
In addition to the above rules, the disabled may make use of assistance during their routine.
The dog may be kept on a lead.
If any of the rules cannot be adhered to because of the disability, the handler should notify the organisers prior to the event, in order to obtain dispensation.

TIMES OF ROUTINES
The length of the routine is at the handler's discretion, but, should be no longer than 4 minutes with a 5% (12 seconds) over-run allowed, additional over-run will be penalised under Section 1. The exact duration of the music should be noted on the entry form by the handler.
Each handler/pair/group should provide their music, which should be of a high quality. If CD, the case should be marked with the track number. If audiocassette, the music should be at the beginning of the tape and be followed by a blank piece of tape. The handler must provide a back-up tape of the music whether the original be on CD or tape.

THE RING
Classes 1 - 12 will be held in a marquee on a grass surface with a ring approximately 10x15 metres.
Classes 13 and 14 will be held in the Main Show Ring.

BOOKING IN
Handlers must book in and lodge their music with the Canine Freestyle GB organisers upon arrival.

ENTRY PASSES
Each handler will receive an entry pass for the competition which will include entry to the whole Show - please ensure you show these passes at the entry gate.  Spectator entry is £2 and allows entry to whole show - these are to be purchased on the day of the event.

REFRESHMENTS
Hot and cold food can be purchased from the catering units, which are placed throughout the showground.

PRIZES
Each performer will receive a commemorative rosette and other “prizes” will be awarded during the day.

THE VENUE
The Brentwood Centre Showground, Doddinghurst Road, Brentwood, Essex can be reached via junction 28 of the M25.  Then take the A1023 and follow event signs.  The showground is approximately 3 miles from the M25.

OVERNIGHT CAMPING
Available at £4 per night per unit. Booking not required.

Classes 1- 10 - One Dog and One Handler Entering your lowest eligible class
“HEARD THE STORY” : Musical Heelwork Class 1 - Canine Freestyle Class 2
For handlers and dogs that have not been placed 1st to 3rd in a Starters HTM or Freestyle class. In this class, a dog may be worked on the lead. (See Performance Rule 6)
“READ THE BOOK” : Musical Heelwork Class 3 - Canine Freestyle Class 4
For dogs which have not been placed 1st to 3rd  in a Novice HTM or Freestyle Class
“SEEN THE VIDEO” : Musical Heelwork Class 5 - Canine Freestyle Class 6
For dogs that have not been placed 1st to 3rd  in an Intermediate HTM or Freestyle Class
“GOT THE T SHIRT!” : Musical Heelwork Class 7 - Canine Freestyle Class 8
For dogs not eligible to enter Classes 1-6
“YOUNG BLOOD”  Class 9 :  For handlers of 17 years of age or under - at closing date of entry.
“ANYTHING GOES” Class 10:  For handlers who feel that their disability impedes their entry in the other classes.
“TWO BY TWO”    Class 11 For two handlers, each with one dog. Open to all. Places in Pairs do not affect eligibility in singles classes.
“OPEN HOUSE”     Class 12 - For groups of more than two handlers, or an uneven number of dogs and handlers.
