Members of the Loughborough Dog Training Club
Many thanks to the Loughborough Dog Training Club for inviting me to hold an obedience-training day on Sunday 24th of March. The day dawned with the sun shining in a cloudless blue sky for our journey to LDTC.

To say Loughborough DTC were lucky to have a terrific training hall, and outside training facilities would be wrong. They have worked their socks off to bring into being the large training hall complete with it's first class facilities. And how refreshing it was to be in the company of this team of polite, hardworking and loyal people.
The clutch on my van decided to fail the day before so I was extremely fortunate to be chauffeured by my brother Steve who was also suitably impressed by the facilities and this very grand training environment.
Ten people attended the course, which kept it at a well-balanced and manageable level, enabling us to cover a lot of ground. It was lovely to see the dogs improving as the day progressed. `Attention' as always being very high on the priority list, firstly getting it, and then maintaining it - a common problem in obedience work. Then of course at the other end of the scale were the dogs that had too much hectic drive for the handler's comfort.
It was charming to see Janet's new puppy, he is only five months old and working very nicely. Janet was working very hard, and successfully, with this pup's attention. Even though we only had ten dogs there, we had an assortment of Collies, Beardies and a Standard Poodle, this made it interesting as they had quite different styles of work.
Everybody had a lovely time with a friendly and relaxed atmosphere prevailing throughout the day (We had a super barbecue at dinnertime, and home made cakes for tea) this of course produces the level best training environment for people and their dogs.
It was certainly a day to remember.
Looking forward to see you all again soon.
Linda.
About
Loughborough Dog Training Club
Loughborough Dog Training Club was formed in 1968 by a group of enthusiasts who were involved in working trials and obedience. Alan and Irene Newton and their friends Bill and Nancy Hull laid the foundations upon which the club continues to build. It is Kennel Club registered and runs an annual Championship Obedience show; where the winners of the highest dog and bitch classes go on to compete at Crufts.
LDTC runs regular courses for beginner dogs and/or handlers which is the basic heel on and off lead, recall and stays. These are very well attended. Some people continue with Intermediate training working towards competitive obedience level. The club also has an Advanced training night for people who enter obedience competitions.
The committee organise a variety of activities for members from bowling to training days to painting the club building. The former tends to be better attended than the latter!
New members are always welcome to join us in our appreciation of our canine companions.
